Ex-Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle is based Stateside these days with his starring role in American Gods. But he hasn’t forgotten where he started out!
Ex-Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle may have head for Hollywood soon after quitting his role as cop Calvin Valentine in the Channel 4 soap back almost a decade ago. But it’s nice to hear the Manchester-born star hasn’t forgotton where his roots lie!
“I miss Manchester and it’s awesome,” Ricky told The Manchester Evening News in a recent interview. “I miss the outrageous banter that I had there with my friends and family that live there. Don’t get me wrong, Los Angeles is fun and you meet great people from all over the world. But it’s just different when you meet someone from Manchester. It’s usually an instant connection because the humour is unrivaled. Dry, cutting, sarcastic and non-stop. But at the same time they are more genuine and always had my back.”
Since moving to the States, Ricky has starred as Lincoln on the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series, The 100 (the character was controversially killed-off, angering some fans) and currently plays Shadow Moon, a former convict turned boduguard on Amazon Prime’s fantasy drama series, American Gods, which is based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name.
Filming on Season 3 of American Gods begins in Toronto, Canada later this year.
American Gods, Season 1 + 2 are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video
