Emmerdales Ryan Hawley quits soap after five years as Robert Sugden – DigitalSpy.com

After five years playing Robert Sugden, it looks like actor Ryan Hawley is saying goodbye to Emmerdale.

The 33-year-old, whose character’s relationship with Danny Miller’s Aaron Dingle is beloved by fans perhaps more than any other on the show, will reportedly make his exit later this year. Yep, that means no more Robron…

According to The Sun, Hawley is interested in expanding his acting roles and trying new projects.

When reached by Digital Spy, the ITV soap said: “We don’t comment on storyline speculation.”

Hawley was cast in the role in 2014, and became the fourth actor to take on the role of Robert.

Since joining the soap, he’s been involved in many high-profile plots, including returning to the village with the White family and his high-profile relationship storyline, which led to an affair, engagement, multiple break-ups and an eventual wedding with Aaron.

He was also involved in the manslaughter and cover-up of his ex-lover and sister-in-law Katie Sugden (Sammy Winward), was shot by Ross Barton (Michael Parr) as part of a whodunnit, and supported Aaron after discovering he was sexually abused by his father Gordon Livesy (Gary Mavers) as a child.

The actor has been nominated for several awards along the way, including Best Villain and Best Actor at the British Soap Awards, while he won the Tric Award for Best Actor last year.

Given what the soap has put Robert (and Aaron) through already, we can only imagine what Emmerdale bosses have in store for his exit…

Emmerdale currently airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with extra episodes at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
