Kate Middleton gets her hands dirty in surprise Blue Peter appearance – Mirror Online

Kate Middleton got her hands dirty during a surprise appearance on tonight’s Blue Peter.

The Duchess of Cambridge took part in three outdoor activities with presenter Lindsey Russell and local schoolchildren at Westminster City Council’s Paddington Recreation Ground

Kate admitted that pond dipping was “massively up my street” as she grabbed and net and found tadpoles and newts.

The 37-year-old also went to the garden to do some planting and enjoyed a den building competition in the woods

Kate spoke about instilling a love of nature in George, five, Charlotte, four and Louis one, and revealed she drags her kids outside in all weathers.

She said: “Rain or shine, they’re dragged outside. It’s great.

“It encourages creativity, confidence and even a short amount of time – 10 or 15 minutes – makes a huge difference to ­physical wellbeing but also to our mental wellbeing.”

The kids loved having Kate help them to build a den – and she proved her prowess by finding by leading her team to victory in the den building contest.

Kate told her team: “You did an amazing job finding everything and you did it seriously quickly.”

Kate, who already has a special gold Blue Peter badge, was given a green one for her efforts to encourage families to get out into nature.

She wasn’t the only one to be rewarded, as Kate gave all the children a green Blue Peter badge.

Kate’s team won the den building contest

She launched a contest to design a sculpture that will go in her Back To Nature garden.

The winning entry will be built and installed in Kate’s Chelsea Flower Show concept garden when it moves to the Royal Horticultural Society’s site in Wisley, Surrey, in September.

The Duchess’s woodland wilderness garden at the Chelsea Flower Show last month featured a tree house, a rope swing, a den and a campfire.

She took her kids and Prince William there for a visit where they were snapped having lots of fun.
