This small Walking Dead detail in episode 11 could spell trouble –

Note: This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season 9 episode 11 ‘Bounty’.

The Walking Dead‘s latest episode largely centred on Hilltop and the Whisperers’ tense trade, but one small detail during scenes following the Kingdom folks’ adventures could mean bad news.

In episode 11 ‘Bounty’, which aired in the US on Sunday night (February 24), the Kingdom went on a scavenging run, searching a cinema for a projector bulb to be used at the fair.

Interestingly, the camera lingered pretty noticeably on one background image.

So what does this mean exactly?

Given that the Hilltop scenes gave a lot of attention to the Whisperers, the most obvious theory is that the symbol is linked to the new antagonists.

The Whisperers and leader Alpha in particular have talked about what constitutes as their land and warned against anyone crossing over to their territory.

The Kingdom has yet to encounter the Whisperers (only Hilltop and – with Michonne presumably now back home – Alexandria are aware of the threat), but the symbol could indicate that they have ‘trespassed’ onto the Whisperers’ land.

And that could spell trouble for them.

Showrunner Angela Kang was asked about this very symbol by Entertainment Weekly, and she remained unsurprisingly coy.

“What I will say about it is, we will learn who is attached to that sign at some point soon,” she said. “Sooner rather than later, but I won’t say exactly when. It does play into the season story is what I’ll say.”

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV.
