Wild Bill premieres on ITV, but viewers spot something massively wrong –

For those who weren’t actually watching Love Island on Wednesday night (June 12), there was a brand new show on ITV to keep viewers amused… even if it ended up making them rather annoyed.

Wild Bill is a comedy-drama starring Hollywood actor Rob Lowe as senior police officer Bill Hixon, who has relocated from Miami to the unlikely destination of Boston, Lincolnshire.

Here’s how ITV describes the new six-part series: “Landing in Boston, Lincolnshire with teenage daughter Kelsey, he’s hoping they can flee their recent painful past.

“However, this unfamiliar, unimpressed community will force Bill to question everything about himself and leave him wondering if it’s Boston that needs Bill, or Bill that needs Boston?”

Well, that’s all well and good. But according to viewers watching the first episode on Wednesday, there was just one problem: the accents.

Although the show is set in Lincolnshire, many people couldn’t understand why everyone sounded like they were from Yorkshire…

And don’t mention Rob Lowe’s accent, either…

Speaking to Digital Spy about why he decided to move away from US TV, Lowe explained: “I’ve been doing this a long time, and it becomes harder and harder to get people’s attention, and to raise their eyebrows, and to do things that people haven’t seen.

Wild Bill is a totally unnatural fit, by design, and that’s what drew me to it when I first read the script.”

Wild Bill continues next Wednesday (June 19) at 9pm on ITV.
